Te Reo Maori

Image
On a Monday morning, Matua comes in to teach us Te Reo Maori.  We have been learning to say our Mihi.  Some people can stand up and say it in front of the rest of the class.  That takes a lot of courage! Matua is very cool at playing the guitar and has taught us a rainbow song that he made up himself! Some of the colour names are different from the ones we learnt at Kindy or in Year 1 so we have to 'stretch our brains' and learn some new words. Using the coloured cuisenaire rods helped.  Ka Kite Matua, see you next Monday!

wet lunchtimes

Well, we had our first wet lunchtimes.  We have 3 awesome wet day monitors who mix and mingle with us and help us to make very cool and awesome things from different construction toys. It took a bit of thinking to work out how to make a merry-go-round and some other interesting 3-D shapes out of straws. Thanks, boys, we'll see you next time we have a wet lunchtime!

Our Art

Look at our whiteboard covered with lovely sunflowers!  James' Nana is an artist. She came in and taught us about warm and cool colours. She brought sunflowers with her for us to observe with our artist's eyes.  Then we coloured in some outlines using oil pastels choosing warm colours. We also experimented with blending some of the pastel colours.      If we finished early we could colour a whole sunflower with stalk and leaves. We could also draw our own sunflower with petals. Thank you, Mrs Evans 😊

Welcome to 2018

Statistics in Room 6 Statistics is such a fun topic to start our Maths programme for the year! We have been gathering data, sorting data, making tally marks, pictograms, and graphs. The first way we sorted our lunch boxes was (of course) according to colour.  We learnt a lovely new word 'transparent' for the people who had see-through lunch boxes.  We guessed that the most popular colour for lunch boxes would be pink....and we were right! We noticed that our lunch boxes were 'zippers' or 'clippers' according to how they opened and closed.  So our next question was " I wonder if we have more zippers or clippers?" our lunch box graph on the floor was very quickly re-arranged so we could find out the answer.  If you want to know what we found out you'll have to ask your child or come and see the graph up on our wall.
